Atividade antioxidante de Hibiscus sabdariffa L. em função do espaçamento entre plantas e da adubação orgânica Ciência Rural
Ramos,Diovany Doffinger; Vieira,Maria do Carmo; Formagio,Anelise Samara Nazari; Cardoso,Claudia Andrea Lima; Ramos,Dayana Doffinger; Carnevali,Thiago de Oliveira.

Quality traits and lipid composition of meat from crossbreed Santa Ines ewes fed diets including crushed crambe R. Bras. Zootec.
Carneiro,Mayara Mitiko Yoshihara; Goes,Rafael Henrique de Tonissi e Buschinelli de; Silva,Luiz Henrique Xavier da; Fernandes,Alexandre Rodrigo Mendes; Oliveira,Raquel Tenório de; Cardoso,Claudia Andrea Lima; Hirata,Adriana Sathie Ozaki.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the replacement of soybean meal by crushed crambe on the qualitative characteristics, lipids, and chemical composition of the meat from crossbred Santa Ines ewes. These animals presented an initial body score of 2.5, were finished in confinement for 60 days, fed diets containing crushed crambe replacing 0, 33, 67, and 100% of soybean meal, and slaughtered with a body condition score of 3.5. The statistical design was completely randomized, with slaughter weight used as a covariate in the model. Sensory evaluations were performed in the gluteobiceps muscle by untrained evaluators (n = 100) of different ages. There was no significant effect for color, shear force, or cooking loss of the semimembranosus...

Toxicological properties of an aqueous extract of Aristolochia triangularis leaves, using the brine shrimp lethality and Allium cepa bioassays Ciência Rural
Silva,José Darlan Alves da; Nogueira,Cláudio Rodrigo; Vieira,Maria do Carmo; Heredia-Vieira,Silvia Cristina; Barufatti,Alexeia; Crispim,Bruno do Amaral; Francisco,Luiza Flávia Veiga; Viana,Lucilene Finoto; Cardoso,Claudia Andrea Lima.
ABSTRACT: The aqueous extract of Aristolochia triangularis leaves showed activity against Artemia salina larvae, with an LD50 of 370.6 µg/mL. In experiments with Allium cepa seeds, the extract caused a 51.26% reduction in the germination index, inhibited mean root growth, and was cytotoxic at concentrations of 668 and 2,000 µg/mL. Its antioxidant activity was additionally assessed in this research and the ferric reducing antioxidant power value was found to be 391.2 µM/g. Such health-beneficial property can be attributed partly to the total phenolic content, spectrophotometrically determined as 52.67 mg/g. The occurrence of cytotoxicity suggested caution when consuming teas from A. triangularis leaves for medicinal purposes, and equally reveals the need...

Variation of cuticular chemical compounds in three species of Mischocyttarus (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) eusocial wasps Rev. Bras. entomol.
Soares,Eva Ramona Pereira; Batista,Nathan Rodrigues; Souza,Rafael da Silva; Torres,Viviana de Oliveira; Cardoso,Claudia Andrea Lima; Nascimento,Fabio Santos; Antonialli-Junior,William Fernando.
Abstract The social wasps have a remarkable system of organization in which chemical communication mediate different behavioral interactions. Among the compounds involved in this process, cuticular hydrocarbons are considered the main signals for nestmate recognition, caste differentiation, and fertility communication. The aims of this study were to describe the cuticular chemical compounds of the species Mischocyttarus consimilis, Mischocyttarus bertonii, and Mischocyttarus latior, and to test whether these chemical compounds could be used to evaluate differences and similarities between Mischocyttarus species, using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Workers from these three species presented a variety of hydrocarbons ranging from...
